The 5 Most Important Influence Tactics For Leaders

The ability to get others to alter their behavior, want to improve, achieve company goals and willingly perform is one of the key skills of all leaders. Use these influence tactics to help you improve your ability to guide the people you work with to strive for and achieve excellence.

Influence Tactic 1: Create A Bright Future

Travel Reward

People want a clear, simple-to-understand 'promised land' to which they can travel. The most effective way is to do this by painting a promising picture of the future. Certainly you can do it through fear, but it is nowhere near as empowering. Find out what their 'hot buttons' are. For most people it is things like: the sense of making a difference, having control and mastery over their destiny, being involved in something bigger, feeling affiliated with others, feeling like they matter. You will irresistibly pull them forward when you link these types of hot-buttons to whatever it is you are presenting.

The 5 Most Important Influence Tactics For Leaders

Influence Tactic 2: Establish a Sense of Urgency

People need to have ignited within them a fire to move away from their current comfort zone. Present them with data and facts that ignite them emotionally that they need to get active on whatever it is you are presenting to them.

Influence Tactic 3: Bribe With Rewards.

This is one of the oldest and most effective means to influence people. Certainly it will get changes in behavior - but the minute the reward is gone you will probably find an immediate return to the old way of doing things. You and they will be far better served if you can appeal to their higher order of values, so that they will be inspired to the action rather than feeling manipulated.

Influence Tactic 4: Be Known For Delivering Results

Your capability to deliver results is paramount to people who are choosing whether or not to follow you. People will look to your previous performance to assess how much they can trust that what you are suggesting now will come to fruition. Have a reputation for being a person that can be trusted to deliver.

Influence Tactic 5: Be Passionate

Nothing is more magnetic than a person who is filled with passion and enthusiasm. Passion comes from a combination of belief, enthusiasm and emotion. Enthusiasm is a great force and it is contagious. People want to be connected to positive people.

Having an expectation that whatever it is you want will come to fruition in a way that serves the greater good, will enable you to walk with a spring in your step and speak with conviction. Others will be drawn to you and your cause.

Influence Tactic 6: Love and Care for Your People

The number one need of all people is to be accepted and appreciated (another way of saying loved). And as a leader you can best meet this need by ensuring that people feel that YOU hear, understand, appreciate and include them. You do this by regularly being out there with your people in their world, talking with them. Receiving information from them: understanding their major obstacles and problems.

And at the same time giving them information, helping them to see things in a new light or maybe understand more fully the reasons for a decision, or whatever is topical in your business right now. Importantly it is about you being out there with people and connecting at a real level, not just superficial, or tick I'm doing this because that is what good leaders do.

From the smallest of seeds the mightiest trees grow. From your daily interactions with others, the more able you are to lead others into being a flexible, dynamic group.

Don't think you've got time for influence? If you want success you can't afford to not have have the time.

Employee Attendance Incentives

Employees have been known to take excessive days off leading to production problems for many companies. One of the solutions is employee attendance incentives. These are usually rewards given to employees as an incentive to limit their absences from work to a specified number of days.

The perceived benefits of employee attendance incentives are to give the employee some control over their income, and give them a greater sense of responsibility for their jobs. They are also meant to stimulate the employee to work harder than they might otherwise and perhaps find a more effective way to get people to go to work more consistently. However the employee attendance incentive has to be something of value to the employees it is meant to motivate. Without a sense of value, the desire to do better will not be there and attendance will not improve.

Reward Cards

Many companies run these employee attendance incentive programs on a quarterly basis to retain interest year round. They realize that if you run the program yearly, many employees might loose interest before the end of the year and the program will not have the intended effects.

Employee Attendance Incentives

Control over income is a persuasive argument for employee attendance incentives. However this motivation is only temporary, since money is an ineffective long term motivator for a lot of people. Also employees have little ability in reality to alter their behavior significantly in order to affect their earning potential. However employee attendance incentives are meant to provide employees with a motivating factor to avoid unnecessary absenteeism. They are meant as rewards for reducing absenteeism.

The types of incentive programs used by companies are numerous. Some popular employee attendance incentives are things like cash bonuses, gift certificates, travel rewards and big ticket items such as electronics. Some companies allow employees to cash-in unused sick days at the end of every quarter, others give an employee two hours of bonus pay for every month of perfect attendance; and still others provide employees with a buffet lunch, a certificate of achievement, or even a scratch-off card concealing prizes.

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that the employee attendance incentive program that is used should be catered to your company and employees. This is easily accomplished by allowing employees to help you develop the incentive program. Furthermore, their participation in the inception of this employee attendance incentive may very well be a motivator in and of itself.

The duration of the employee attendance incentive program is also vital, and allowing your employees to help determine the length of time between incentives. Some companies find that simply rewarding employees with perfect attendance once a year works for them, while others decide once a month suits their situation better, and still others decide once quarterly or even once a week works best. The general rule of thumb is to reward workers more frequently the younger they are and the more difficult the work is to perform, however knowing your employees is what best determines what duration to put on your employee attendance incentive program. Also, it is best to start with small incentives and work up to larger ones if necessary, since if you start with the larger ones, what more can you add to make the employee attendance incentive program more attractive after the novelty has worn off?

Best and Worst Times to Travel to Europe

When planning your European trip, check your arrival and departures dates and see if they take into account peak, off-peak and shoulder travel periods.

Peak periods are the times when majority of travelers fly in and out of countries and these periods usually coincide with school holidays, Christmas, Easter and New Year. The country you are flying into will also have peak periods unique to that country, so expect flights and accommodation to be heavily booked and tickets to be more expensive. This peak period generally covers late December to January (because of the Christmas season) and late June to the end of August (summer break). Travel during the Christmas holidays can be difficult as plane ticket prices soar and ski resorts start overcharging. Public transport is also reduced in most areas since only a few trains will leave on Christmas day. The "shoulder period" is in spring and autumn and the low or "off-peak" periods are usually in the remaining months and in the winter.

Travel Reward

If you have only a limited time to see Europe, your best bet is to fly in and out during a shoulder period. Prices are almost at their lowest and travel conditions are great because you can avoid the crowds and the overpricing. If you have a lot of time to spare in Europe, try flying in the low season when fares are cheapest so you have more money to spread over your stay. It's always a good idea to start checking airfares 3-4 months before you leave. Airlines are starting to discount in order to reward early bookers and there's a lot time to wait if you think they're too high. The cheapest ticket prices might turn up on the net or at your ticket office at anytime. And while you're at it, make sure you've already reserved your accommodation 6 weeks to 2 months before you leave. It's a good idea to reserve a hotel for your arrival and departure days. The rest can be reserved afterwards. Also, remember to check for travel dangers and updates. Your government and insurance company might draw the line if you visit a certain territory they've warned you about. Be informed about the dangers and uprisings in the country you are visiting and do last-minute updates to check conditions right before you leave.

Best and Worst Times to Travel to Europe

For most seasoned travelers, the best time to see Europe is from April to June and September to October when the weather is still warm, the holiday crowds have left and accommodation and transport are regularly priced.

In contrast, the single worst time to visit most parts of Europe (especially the western and southern countries) is the month of August. This is when many Europeans leave and take their holidays in nearby countries as well. The cities can be deserted and as a result, accommodation prices shoot up and finding a bed can be very difficult. Buses and trains will often be packed and it can be a struggle to get a seat while you cross countries. Even most tourist shops and sites can be closed because the proprietors have gone on holiday as well! There's little doubt that July and August are the busiest tourist months in Europe (mainly because of Americans on vacation) and it will require a lot of patience and money. Avoid these months as much as you can. If you really must travel in the high season, your best course of action is to stay away from the major cities and choose the off-track towns and villages and indulge in the local culture.

How To Improve Your Study Habits and Remember Better

If you're a student attending classes, you have probably experienced many moments when it was hard to make yourself settle down and study, even when an important exam was coming up.

If you're like most students, you put off studying until the very last minute. The night before the exam, you'll stay up all night cramming, getting little or no sleep. In the morning, you'll drag yourself out of bed, psych yourself up with lots of coffee and some cigarettes, and go into the exam feeling exhausted, drained and jittery all at the same time. You'll find it hard to focus or think, and you'll be cursing yourself for not starting to study sooner.

Reward Cards

And not surprisingly, unless you're blessed with natural brilliance, or you happen to know the subject matter extremely well, you'll probably do terribly on the test.

How To Improve Your Study Habits and Remember Better

If this is your typical method of studying, you already know it doesn't work. Every time you go through this ritual, you tell yourself that you're going to smarten up the next time you face a big exam. Next time you'll start to study weeks in advance, you say. But instead, you keep repeating this crazy pattern. Why does this keep happening? And what should you be doing instead if you want to get better marks?

A big problem for most people, especially those who are young students, is that life gets in the way. If you're a student, you probably have a part time job, and like most young people, you also want to have a social life.

Studying can seem very boring compared to all the exciting temptations just outside your door. Or the games on your computer. Even watching old reruns of Sesame Street can seem more interesting than the biology text your teacher is expecting you to master!

One reason we often don't start studying until the last possible minute is that we have misjudged how long it will actually take us to absorb and understand the material. If your mid-term is still six weeks away, that might seem like plenty of time left before you need to get around to studying. You might find however, that the subject matter is a lot harder to understand than you thought it would be, and all of a sudden there's no time left to ask someone to explain it to you.

Another reason we often put off starting to study is that we are too overwhelmed with how big the project actually seems to be. Somehow we convince ourselves that putting off a tough study project can be the best way to avoid feeling overwhelmed by it.

When we are faced with a study project that seems exceptionally difficult and overwhelming, it can be to maintain a high level of interest and motivation for the duration of the learning process.

If you have been guilty of all these bad study habits, it's not too late to learn some other habits that will work better for you.

First, remind yourself why you want to do better in your studies. Maybe you need a good mark to get into a good college. Maybe you want a chance at a career that will pay you well. Always keep your end goal in mind.

You can put little cards up around your room with inspirational messages, and attractive photographs that will remind you why you want to do well in school.

If you feel very overwhelmed, you can improve your motivation and your performance by breaking up the project into smaller sections, or "chunks". Each time you accomplish one little bit successfully, give yourself a meaningful reward.

If you have a deadline looming, decide how much of the project you need to tackle at one time.

Let's say you have six weeks to master the content of a difficult biology text. Looking through the book you realize that if you study one chapter each night, you can get through the book in 28 days, leaving two weeks in which you can again review the material.

With this knowledge you can pace yourself. You know what your assignment is. You know how much you need to read every night. Concentrate on the immediate task at hand. You don't need to feel overwhelmed by the entire book at one time. Next, work out a system of rewards for yourself. Give yourself a series of small rewards each time you master one chapter, and a larger reward for completing the entire book.

For rewards to work they must be immediate, and personally meaningful to you. There is no point in rewarding yourself with a new fishing rod if you hate fishing.

Rewards don't need to be material objects if there is something else that would really motivate and inspire you. How about attending a special concert, or taking a special trip? You decide. Get creative and think of something that will spur you to take action.

It's very important that the reward take place soon after the work has been accomplished. This creates a sense of positive reinforcement. Give yourself a small reward every time you finish a small part of the job, and a bigger reward when the project is completed. If there is too long a gap between the activity and the reward, it will not have the effect of reinforcing the desired activity.

Besides motivating yourself with a series of external rewards, learn to motivate yourself internally. Tell yourself you're a good learner. Tell yourself you enjoy learning. Tell yourself you enjoy giving your brain a good work out. Congratulate yourself for your efforts. Tell yourself you love acquiring new knowledge, and let yourself feel a joy in learning. Be proud of yourself for the work you do to gain more knowledge.

For information to sink into your brain and be accessible to you, you need to review it several times, and your brain needs to sleep properly for the memories to be encoded in your neurons. You need to reduce your mental stress. Your brain needs good nutrition and it needs to be in a peaceful, confident state. Drugs and alcohol don't help the process of learning.

Write out what you are learning in your own words, and find a learning buddy. Practice explaining to someone else what you have learned. This will increase the likelihood that your brain will remember it.

If you start to cram the night before, you are putting your brain at a big disadvantage.

You're increasing your physical and mental stress, and you're not giving yourself time to review the material several times. By cutting back on your sleep, you're not giving your brain a chance to put the information you've been studying into the hard drive storage of your brain.

By starting your studies early, and reviewing what you've learned, you have a much better chance of remembering and understanding what you need to know when you face a big exam.

What is a Good Steward? Is Your Debt Standing Between You and God

Christians are often encouraged to be "good stewards" but what does that mean?

Biblically speaking, a steward is someone who was trusted with another's goods. As Christians, we should realize everything we have belongs to God. Therefore everything we "own" actually belongs to God. We are simply stewards of His goods. So what does this imply?

Travel Reward

First we should rid ourselves of attitudes like "It's mine, I can wreck it if I want to", because it's not ours and the decision of whether or how to dispose of it doesn't belong to us. We simply hold our earthly goods in trust.

What is a Good Steward? Is Your Debt Standing Between You and God

In addition, this concept should free us from being slaves to "our" material things. If it belongs to God then He can do with those things as He wishes. Why worry about "losing" all "we" have?

Lastly, we need to take care of what God allows us to steward. Scripture says if we do well with what we've got we'll get more. If we squander what little we have, we'll lose even that. So not having much is no excuse for not taking care of what we've got. So how should we adjust our attitude?

Be thankful. Often when we treat ourselves we think... "I've earned it." While it's true your success may be the result of effort you put forth, who gave you the ability and the opportunity? It must have come from God. God says he gives us the desires of our hearts. (Psalms 37:4)

Does this means God gives those who delight themselves in Him what they desire or the desires themselves? I'd have to say both!

What good is one without the other?

Proverbs 13:12 says "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life."

Why would God give us a desire and not what we desire? Such a God would be cruel.

How can godly thoughts and desires spring from anywhere but God? Scripture clearly states man is no good by himself. We were all born in sin and tend to seek out ungodly things. Since all good things come from God, it stands to reason our godly desires also come from God. What about ungodly desires?

I don't for one moment think God gives us anything that would lead us away from Him. This includes desires. So such ungodly desires must come from somewhere else.

The conclusion here is clear: God gives us godly things, including godly desires and then he gives us those godly things we desire. What do we do to receive all this?

Delight ourselves in the Lord.

One we understand everything we have is from God what next?

Treat your things with care. Your attitude should be After all they don't belong to you, they were given to you to use so use them with respect.

Be generous. Our God has cattle on a thousand hills. He is our sufficiency in all things. He also knows we will be in situations that allow us to show His love to others. God wants us to help others, so we should whenever possible.

Be fruitful. Remember the parable of the talents. The good servants (stewards) returned more to the master than they got. Fruitfulness implies producing rather than consuming. Yes, a workman is worthy of his reward, but many spend far more time and money counting and enjoying the rewards than furthering God's purposes.

Most of us get into trouble when we start wanting stuff we can't afford and even some stuff we can afford. God says plainly our hearts are where are treasures are. (Matthew 6:21) So do you want your heart to be with God or locked up in the basement with your gold?

Being a good steward doesn't mean living a life of poverty while giving all we own to others. It does mean taking the best possible things of what God blessed us with and bearing fruit with it. Whether bearing fruit means helping others or multiplying what we've got depends on God's Will for our lives. He's designed each of us to respond to Him in unique ways.

Scripture does NOT say it's a sin to have debt, yet it seems clear borrowing is not something that should be taken lightly. If you are borrowing because you spend more than you earn than your bigger problem is spending. Surely it would be best if we had no debt at all, but this is not always possible. What is possible is to make every effort to live within our means.

This may mean a less expensive car, house, or toys, among other things. Do you pay 0 per month for cable tv? Are you addicted to texting on your cell phone? Do you eat out several times a week? Even fast food costs a lot more than eating similar meals at home. A hard look at our spending habits may reveal much about the kind of steward we are.

If any of this has hit home, you may want to look at your life and the fruit you produce. Keep in mind God gives us more than mere material things too. He gives us our talents, abilities and our time. By adjusting your attitude about what you have, you can open the floodgates to all the blessings God has in store for you.

MasterCard Points

With a MasterCard points reward scheme each time a person uses their card to make a purchase they earn points based on just how much they spend. Generally you will earn 1 point for every dollar you spend and as these points are then accumulated you have a choice of how you can then use them.

Some people may choose to use them as a way of paying of some of the balance on their card, whilst others may use them to get cash back or to make a purchase. Today the points you earn on your MasterCard can allow you to use them to gain rewards on airlines, buy cinema or concert tickets or for getting household or electronic goods.

Reward Cards

Certainly of all the rewards schemes currently available and being used by credit card companies to get people to apply for theirs is the point's one. However it is important to remember that many credit cards, which have a points scheme in place, will often charge their clients a higher annual percentage rate (APR) compared to those that do not.

MasterCard Points

Therefore if you want to get the best from your MasterCard as well as earn all those lovely points there are certain things, which you can do. Below we take a look at some things, which may help you to choose which is the right one for you.

1. If you can weigh up the advantages and disadvantages that each credit card has to offer. Doing this you will be able to see more clearly which credit card is going to be more beneficial to you and your wallet.

2. Choose the reward scheme very carefully. If you are someone who does not do much travelling then avoid going for those points schemes where you get the money back by being able to reduce the costs of your flights. Instead why not go for a card where when you have got sufficient points you are able to exchange it for cash or for buying a goods at a much better price.

3. When you have accrued sufficient points it is wise to spend them quickly as unfortunately a large number of credit card companies often make changes to the schemes they have without much prior warning. So suddenly one day you may well find that the points you have accrued are actually worth far less than you first thought.

4. Also although the MasterCard points reward scheme seems a big incentive for you to have more than one card. It is best that you do not as this will only increase the burden being placed on your finances. Plus also only take a card out if you are sure that you can actually comfortably be able to repay the outstanding balance on the card each month.
